GOVERNOR AT PEDONG
(Continued from page 7)
got together and start co-operative wel-
fare funds half our problem? would
already have been solved.
He touches upon the plea made fc.r
unrestricted motor traffic on the new
Pedong car road. He asks us to consider
the road which is before our very eyes.
What would be its condition if heavy
traffic . were allowed now in it? infancy ? T
think the plea was not put forward
correctly. What should have been asked
for is that enough motor traffic be allowed
so that if one wants to get away in a
hurry, one would not have to trudge
upto Algahra Bazaar in order to catch
a car. There is a daily service plying
between Kalimpong and Pedong but,
often this is piled high with cardamom
and other goods. May be the freight
for these is more than the hire from
human passengers.
The Governor also mentions that he
is told by the Doctor that what medi-
cines the Government is supplying now
is sufficient to meet the heeds of the
Pedong Hospital Yet, I am told that
many patients on seeking admission are
told that the\T must pay for medicines that
are not in stock and that will have to be
bought in Kalimpong and ether places.
In .closing his speech the Governor
exhorts us not to believe in those who
will surely come promising to clothe and
feed us fully within a day or two.
“Do riot” he says, “attribute to ordi-
nary mortals powers that belong to
the Almighty alone. “If you ask these
people how such a miracle is to be per-
formed they will say that they will
deprive the rich of their surplus wealth
and distribute it equally among all. At
this there is a burst of spontaneous and
enthusiastic clapping from certain sections
