THINGS WK WANT TO KNOW

1. Ts there any reason for not having
accorded a civic reception to Air
Marshall Gibbs when he recently
visited Darjeeling ?
2. More contributions, to this new feature
are invited. Important matters for
remedial measures.should be brought
to. the notice of the authorities con-
cerned. Surely ifone will look round
one will find many things ijiat require
the attention of the authorities, then
why nqt contribute ?
3. Elementary or Primary Education is
talked about a great deal nowadays
and even a cess Aras been introduced
to held it along. Is it a wise, move
in this district where unemployment
is rife and with no industry to .take
them in. This emphasis on ^education
is likely to do more harm than
*: good'as with a little knowledge the
youth when unemployed are sure
to beco.me restive and cause ’difficulty.
4. The lighting at Chowrasta Is poor
and due 10 its- importance .more
modern lighting system 'could ' be
introduced to mike the area as
attractive as it deserves to- be. The
fountain could also be- lighted anc!
painted to be attractive.
FACTS AND FIGURES
1. During 1951-52, U. K. was the
largest m irket for Indian goods, from
Its. 135 15,crores in 1950-51 the value
of Indian exports increased to Its. 1ST.74
crores in 1951-52.
2. About a erore of persons and
2 crore heads of cattle are employed* in
the Indian bulloek-c.art industry The
number of bullock carts in India is
estimated at 87 lakhs with a total capital
investment of Rs. 201 crores.
