the Maitri Sangha. Kalim-
pong, the 91st birthday
anniversary of -fcwami
Vivekananda was celebra-
ted at Town Half-on. the
11th January 1953 at 5
p m., Sj.S.N. Kov..S;D O.,
presided.

The function started-
with the announcement of
the results of the essay-:
com pi tit ion declared by
the Parishad.

Swami Gangeshananda
of Ramkrishna Math gave
a scholastic speech on
.Swami Vivekananda and
his Teachings on the oua-
sion.

A musical performance
was also" performed con-
sisting of a nice'narrat ion
of the life sketch of Swami
Vivekananda.

The most attractive
item was a Rudra-danc.e
by Satyajit Dhar.

The function ended
with the presidential ad-
dress in which the early
life of the Swamiji and
his missionary activities
were discussed.

The Parishad collected
some money to help the
poor on the. occasion and
it was declared in the
meeting that the amount
would be donated to the
local children -welfare
clinic.

ELECTION IN SIKKIM

Gangt.ok, Jan. 12

The , Sikkim Darbar
have issued a Proclamation
to provide for election of
members of the State
Council,. The State has
been divided into four
constituencies each retur-
ning three members. Out
of the twelve seats to. be
filled by election six seats
have been reserved for
Bh iitia-Lepcha community
and six for the Nepali
co/nmunity.- Twelve ean-
diateb for-, the six Bhutia-
Lepcha seats! will beelec-
, ted by Bhutia-Lepcha only
in a Primary Election.
Thereafter there shall be
a Final Election in which
twelve members—six Bnu-
. tia-Lepcha and six Nepa
lese, shall be elected by
all the voters in a Joint
Election.

To be a members of
the Council a person must
be at least thirty years
of age ; must have a Fixed
Habitation in Sikkim and
must have resided in Sik-
kim for at least fifteen
years, or must be, a Sik-
kimese Bhubia or Lepcha,
or must be a landowner or
dependent thereof, or must
be a houseowner or depen-

dent thereof._

be sent by post or per-
sonally submitted in the
District Excise Office or
opium shops or to any
officer of the Excise Dept
