bye-election from Kalimpong. Constituency,
for the ' West Bengal Legislative Assembly,
defeating his nearest rival by more than
7200 votes. The poll was taken on 1 Sth
inst and he counting was held todav.

Tuesday, the 15th January of Miss
Amy Pirkis She celebrated her 81st
birthday on the 1st January and, to
many visitor she appeared to be in
good spirits and her dembe so soon
after was a great, shock to her many,
friends who will for a long time carry
affectionate memories of good old
Pirkie. She spent 37 years in Darjeeling
and was in her simple and unassuming
way an institution here.
