DARJEELING SUPPORTS
CALCUTTA MOVEMENT

Darjeeling, July 22

A Public meeting ;was
held at Chowk Bazar,
Darjeeling on the 19th
July 1953 in which Shri
Kalu Singh said that the
movement against the
enhancement of Second
Class Tram Faro was now
not limited on the one-
pice movement and it
may develop into a Na-
tional Movement.

Shri Budhiman Rai
condemned the oppressive
attitude of the authorities
concerned of Victoria Hos
pital towards Nurses of
the saitl Hospital who are
compelled to attend 15
days continued Night Duty
every rat nth. He further
said that the" authorities
concerned refuse to hear
any grievame of the Nur-
ses who have no right to
approach higher officers
directly. Nurses get only.
Rupees Ten a month.
He demanded the replace-
ment of the present Mat-
ron with a good one who
behaves with Nurses and
looks after patients pro-
perty

the wrong attitude of

Hospital towards Nurses

TENZING EXPLAINS DEATH
OF CLIMBER

Tenzing who is on
holiday in Switzerland as
a guest of the Swiss Al-
pine Foundation, reached
Grindelwald on July 22.
1953.

He was met by the
Indian Minister to Swit-
zerland, Mr. Gundevia.

Earlier this,week Ten-
zing met a Swiss women,
Mrs. Frey, mother of a
Swiss business man of
Calcutta, who was killed
while climbing witty Ten-
zing in the Himalayas two
years ago.

Tenzing, who buried
Mrs, Frey’s son high up
in the mountains, des.
cr bed to her her son’s
burial place and said he
had placed Dowers on the
grave to mark the spot

NEPALI-MEDIUM

A big public meeting,
organised by Siksha Pra-
charini Samity, Darjeeling,
was held at G. D. N. S.
Hall, Darjeeling under the
presidentship of Sri T.
Manaen.

Sri Kajiman Rai, Sri
Balbahadur Chhetri, Sri
Dharni Dhar Sharma, Srf
Deo Prakash Rai, Sri Ga-
neshial Subba and■ Sri D.
B.S. Ghataraj.'M i-..a. spoke
in the meeting. A written
speech by Sri Paras Mani
was alsQ read there. All
the. speakers dwelt oil the
absolute necessity of im-
parting education to stu-
' dents of secondary schools
through the . medium of
Nepali language. They ex-
pressed great dissatisfac-
tion ■ on the insistence of
Head Masters and Head
Mistresses of Missionary
schools in not introducing
Nepali medium in their
schools.

A resolution thanking
the West Bengal Govern-
ment for the act of ele-
vating Nepali as a Major
Vernacular and demanding
the immediate introduc-
tion of Nepali language
as the medium of instruc-
tion in the High Schools
in this district was adop-
ted in this meeting.

Brahman and B B. Hamal
paid homage to the matyrs
who died fighting for the
cause of the people.
