Gangtok, Aug. 15
•Major Kapur, announced
that the President of the
Indian Union was pleased
to appoint Maharaj Ku-
mar P. T. Nanigy-al, O.B K.
of Sikkim, as Honorary
Lt-Oolonel of the Indian
Army. Captain D. S. Lep-
er ha. General Secretary of
the Sikkim State Congress,
who happened to be near
the Maharaj Kumar, was
seen congratulating him
with a military salute
The Maharaj-Kumar then
proceeded to- the flagstaff
and received congratula-
tions and blessings from
the Political Officer and
the Maharaja.

RETIRES

Sri and Srimati Rup-
Tiarayan bade good-bye to
the 1 argo n umber of t h e i r
friends ai\d left for the Pun-
jab to lead a retired life.
Sri Rupnarayan joined the
Sikkim Judicial Services
as a Chief Judge in 1924,
and served the Durbar as
such till loth July 1952
At times, lie. also served
as General secretary to
tlie Maharaja of Sikkim.
Of late, h e was tile cons-
titutional Advisor to tho
Maharaja of Sikkim and
worked as Returning Ofli
ccr during the last elec-
tion.

SWORN IN

Si' Kashi Raj Pra-
dhan of Sikkim State
Congress and Sri Sonant
Tueringof Sikkim National
Party were sworn in as
Executive Councillors this
morning. Sri Kashi Raj
has been alloted Education
Transport, Excise, and
Public Works Department
while Bazars, Health, Pu-
rest and Press have gone
to Sri Sonant Tsering.

unfurled the Indian Union
Flag on the flagstaff at
the Residency, today at
9-15.1 He. accompanied,
with the Maharaja of Sik-
kim. inspected the Guard
of Honour provided by.the
detatcliment of First Maha-
rattas Light Infantry, the
Girls. Guides .and the Bov
‘JScohts and took the salute
when they marched past.

BHUTAN PRINCESS
Kalimpong, Aug. 19
A daughter, their first
child, was horn last month
to the Maharani and Ma-
haraja of Bhutan in Swit-
zerland, where they are
on a visit. The news was
conveyed to the political
Agein at Bhutan.

International Handbook of
Fellowships, Scholarships
and Educational Exchange’
which is intended first.and
foremdst as a handbook
to which students can refer
in order to explore opporU
Utilities open to them for
furthering their education
in other countries. This
volunte lists international
scholarships and training
opportunities reported by
GI States and a number
of non-self-governing and
trust, territories. The in-
formation on annual .and
regular scholarships has
been brought' up to -date-.

'Study Abroad' is being
revised and.expanded each
year and its publication
lias .had ..some important
consequences ' Not only
does the information it
gives stimulate the inter-
national flow of student
exchanges by' drawing
attention to study oppor-
tunities that might other-
wise have been missed,
but it also contributes to
tlie quality of fellowship
programmes by producing
a wide range of applica-
tions from which tho best
candidates can be chosen.
