NEWS LETTER FROM SIKKIM

Gangtok, (Sikkim) November 27

Tbe fiirst business
session of tbe Sikkim
State Council lasted for
5 days from Nov. l(i.
Lively interest was taken
by almost all the elected
members of the Council.
The supplementary budget
was passed without any
division. Demands for
aids to orange cultivators
and other agricultures,
repairs and maintenance
of village roads and brid.
ges, more educational and
health facilities and ameni-
ties in the rural areas
were the special features
of the session.

derstood that he will

preside over the Maha-
bodhi Society meeting to
he held in C^loutta on
Nov. 29. It may be

remembered that he wa3
elected President of the
Sooiety last month defea-
ting other notable candi-
dates.

Political Officer in Sikkim
accompanied by Mrs.
Kapur and his staff left
for Delhi on Nov. > 20.
It is understood that his
visit to Delhi is in connec-
tion with the Indo-China
talks in Peking regarding
the age long.trade relations
between India and Tibet.

Sri J. S- Lall, Dewan
.Sikkim State and the
Executive Councillors Sri
Kashi'aj Pradhan and Sri
Sonam Tsering are also
leaving via Calcutta for
Delhi to day in connection
with the Investiture cere-
money it is understood..
Sri Lhendup Dorji, Presi-
dent of Sikkim State
Clongress is also intending
to leave for Delhi in a
day or two on important
mission.

AN AFTER CARE COLONY
FOR T. B. PATIENTS
The Governor of West
Bengal has initiated a
scheme for the establish-
ment of an After-Care
Colony for tubercular
convalescent persons, a
vast majority of whom
after recovery from this
disease are required to.
lfve a careful and regula-
ted life -for some time
before they resume their
norfnal avocations, f.

The Colony is propo-
red to be established at
a healthy place close to
a T. B. Hospital in West
Betlgal, so as to enable
the residents o; the Colony
to have proper medical
aid if and when necessary.

It is proposed to set
up a few well-equipped
buildings for the acco-
mmodation of tubercular-
convalescent persons and
to provide suitable ame-
nities and light work for
tberfi. -

The ' Governor has
appointed a Committee to
draw up a scheme for
this purpose and to devise
ways and meaDS for rai-
sing funds for the imple-
mentation of the scheme:-
The Committee por
pose to raise a fund of
Rs. 19 lakhs for the pre-
sent for the inplementa-
tion of the scheme. The
Calcutta Rangers Club
has already donated Rs.
1 lakh which form the
nucleus of the fund.
