AUCTION NOTICE

It is hereby notified
that two old Foid V'S'-:;
tun trucks, belonging o
the General Manager and
Quinologist under' the
Cinchona Directorate will
bo sold by public auction
at the Cinchona godown
Rumbi Bazar, on the
20th April, 1954, at 1 p.m
The trucks will remain
open for inspection at the
Rumbi godown from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m on 19-4-54
and from 9 a.m. till the
auction starts on 20-4-54.
Intending bidders should
be present on the spot
punctually. The trucks
will be sold to the highest
bidder, subject to the
highest bid being not lower
than a minimum value
fixed for each by the
Department The success
ful bidder will have to
take delivery nf the truck
on the spot after paying
the full amount in cash,
fn the alternative. He will
have the option of paying
25 per cent of the amount
as advance deposit on the
spot and the balar.c
within three days from.

condit ions :

1. That the truck will
be delivered to him only
on payment of the full
amount.

There are 1,286 rich
people in India, according
10 the Finance Minister,
Mr. Deshmukh.

Replying on the bud-
got debate in the House
of the People, Mr. Desh-
mukh said he included
among the rich only those
with an income of rupees
one lakh and a half. They
numbered 1,286.

The total income of
these people was Rs. 43.35
crores and out of these
the treasury collected Rs.
29 crores as income-tax
and super-tax. That left
14 crores which, when
divided, gave them each
rupees one lakh and a
quarter

BURGLARY IN WATCH SHOP

Kalimpong, April 2
On the morning of 29th
March a burglary was
reported from the shop of
Mr; B. K. A lhikary. The
burglar broke opened the
glass show case of the
shop and escaped with
several watcher which were
however recovered by the
police.

Rs.8.4 lakhs, were stolen
during 1953.

cultivation in India in
1953-54 is estimated at

54,000.

3- The Indian Railways'
average expenditure ,on
coal in 1952-53 exceeded
Rs. 5,00,000 daily.

4. Ill million packets of
registered newspapers &
136 million packets of book
post were handled by the
P. & T. Department in
1952,53.

5. The quantity of smu-
ggled silver seized in 1953
was nearly 1,63,450 tolas,
as against 2,97,950 tolas
in 1952.
