GANGTOK

Gangtok, April 22

As a result of a cj'clone
of considerable valocity
passing through S'ikkim
lot of damages have been
done to houses there.. Roofs
have been blown away
and trees uprooted at
Singtam and many other
places A case of complete
house having been blown
away in a village known
as Parkha in South Sik-
kim, injuring all the seven
occupants-three of them
seriously-has b"en reported

As a result of heavy
down pour of rain with
hailstones on April 14 and
15 there have been not
less than 10 breaches bet-
ween 5th and 14th miles
from Gangtok to Kangpo.
Mails and passengers are
be'ng transhippedforabout
two and half miles.

dar of Gangtok Hydro

KURSEONG
Kurseong, April 20

Sri T. Wangdi, Deputy
Minister Tribal Welfare
and Sri Abdus Shokur,
Deputy Minister, Agricul-
ture, Govt, of West Ben-
gal visited the Agricul-
tural Demonstration Centre
at Barbong Busty in
Kurseong sub-division.
They also met the local
cultivators and d'scussed
matters relating to Irriga-
tion schemes.

Later, they visited Ta-
mang Bu lhist Monas'ery
and Budhist Free. Primary
School where a reception
meeting was held under the
presidentship of Sri A. K.
Bhattachnrya. S. D. 0.,
Kurseong. In reply to the
address of welcome presen-
ted by the Secretary of the
School, Sri T Wangdi
dealt with the activities of
the Tribal Welfare Depart-
ment and Sri Abdus Shokur
spoke on Agricultural deve-
lopments in the State. In
hi3 Presidential address
Sri A. K. Bhattacharya
informed about the forma-
tion and functions of the
District School Board.
The meeting terminated
with the National Anthem
sung by the girl students.

Kalimpong, April 22

to-day as a result of a jeep

marriage ceremony were
going in the jeep to see
the Dr. Graham's Homes
when at a bend the jtep
overturned killing Gurung
and seriously injuring six
othors all of whom liavo
been admitted in the local
Charteris Hospital. Two
of the. injured persons are
in precarious condition
The driver escaped with
minor injuries The. jeep
came from Darjeeling.

na popularly known and
revered as Holy Mother in
a befetting manner as done

Roy as Chairman has be-n
formed for that purpose &
prominent local > people
have been taken members.
It was further decided to
hold the functions in con-
nection there of on the 15th
and lfith May 1951 at the
lo:al Town Hall.
