KALIMPONG SPORTS ASSOCIATION

Sir, May I receive the
privilege of your columns
to lay something in de-
fence of the much malig-
ned Committee of the
Kalimpong Sports Associa-
tion and to correct a cer-
tain wrong impression con-
cerning it ? I am not a
member of Ihis Commi-
ttee, but I write as one
who was present at the
meeting at which it was
elected.

Earlier this year I,
along with a great many
other people, received an
invitation to attend a
public meetingin the Town
Hall for the purpose of
forming whAtisnow known
as the Kalimpong Sports
Association. If my me-
mory serves me aright,
publio notice was also
given of this meeting, but
in spite of all the efforts
to make the meeting
known the response from
the publio was exceedingly
poor, only a little" over a
dozen people turning up.
Consequently, when it
oame to the election of
office-bearers for the cur-
rent year the ohoioe was
limited. Nevertheless, the
Committee was elected in
a perfectly constitutional
manner and nothing oould
be further from the truth
than to assert that it was
''self-installed".

The committee which
will please everyone has
not yet been formed any-
where and it is only too
easy for us to criticise,
but rf the opportunity
which is given to attend
the appointing of any
public body is refused,
surely those who have
refused cannot complain
overmuch if the body
which is elected is not
to their liking ?

The members of the
Committee of the Kalim-
pong Sports Association
are busy people who are
doing their best and
giving of their time and
energy to provide spor-
ting entertainment. Let
us criticise them if need
be, but let it be a little
more helpful than it has
been in the past and let
us be a little more app-
reciative of the Commi-
ttee's services on behalf
of the sporting publio of
Kalimpong. Yours etc.
Rev. George Watt.
