TIBET FLOOD RELIEF
COMMITTEE
Darjeeling, Aug. 27

The Tibet Flood Relief
Committee from Kalimpom,
called for a meeting of the
influential people of Darje.e- ,
ling to help in raising funds
for the immediate relief
to the distressed people of
Tibet who have badly been
effected due to the recent
flood. The meeting was
held at PLIVAS with Shri
S. Duit Mazumdar, I.A.S.,.
Deputy Commissioner, Dar-
jeeling. The Chairman ex-
plained to all present the
purpose of the meeting and
hoped all would co-operate
in raising funds. Shri D.
Dhondup then read out an
appeal issued by the Tibet
Flood Relief Committee.
Shri T. N. Sherpa, spoke a
few words and explained
necessity of rushing relief
10 the Flood effecied peo-
ple in Tibet.
A Sub Committee was
then formed consisting of
the following gentlemen for
raising subscriptions and
donations on behalf of the
Tibet Flood Relief Commi-
ttee.

BENGALI YOUTH ACQUITED
. . Kalimpong, Aug 28
The Bengali youth who
was arrested a few months
ago by the local police
under section 354 II, P. C.
was found not guilty and
was acquited to day.
TRAINING FOR GURKHAS
IN BRITISH ARMY
i Kathmandu, Aug. 26
A recruiting cum training
oamp for Gurkhas enlist*d
in the British army is to
be opened shortly in
Drran near Biratnagar
Under an agreement
signed between Britain
and Nepal some time back
Britain will be allowed to
recruit Gurkhas for the
British army for a period
of five y»ars.
At present 8 000 Gurkhas
are serving in the British
army in Malaya.
Britain has approached
the Government of Nepal
for the allotment of neoe.
ssary land for the camp.
Unconfirmed reports
' from Biratnagar said that
about 2,000 Gurkhas from
eastern hills had been rec-
ruited during this Heason
by British recruiting
agents who were in Dhan
for a few months
