STERN PUNISHMENT IN
NEPAL FOR
TROUBLE MAKERS

Katbinaodu. Sept. 16

The Nepali Government
has issued a warning that
anyone indulging in de
famatory propaganda
against Nepal's "friendly
nations," and thereby in-
citing people, will be liable
to severe punishment.

The warning oame a
week before protest de-
monstrations called for by -
the Communist-dominated
Janadhikar Suraksh Sa-
miti The demonstrations
are to be held on Sept. 21
to protest against what
the Samiti has described
as "Indian interference in
Nepal."

Without naming speci-
fically the proposed Pro-
test Day the warning
broadcast over the Govern-
ment-controlled Radio Ne-
pal, said : "Some destruc-
tive elements, quite irres-
ponsible towards the coun-
try, the people and the
Government, are inciting
-people by accusing friend
ly , nations offering us
various types of aid on
the basis of mutual co-
oparatiou for our country's
development of interfering
in our affairs."

The warning issued by
the Home Ministry, added:
'The Government atten-
tion has been drawn to
events on Aug. 8 when
such elements in the name

INJ1AN GRANT TO NEPAL

New Delhi, Sept. 10
Sri D. C. Sharma asked
in the Lok Sabha receutly
whether the Government
of India and Nepal had
entered into an arrange-
ment in respect of minor
irrigation projects and
drinking water* facilities
in the rural aiea| of.Nepal.
Replying in trra fcffirma-
tive the Prime Minister,
Sri Jawaharlall Nehru,
said : "Rs. 50 lakhs will
provided as a grant-
in-aid to the Government
of Nepal during the period
of four years commencing
with ll>54-55. The amount
is to be utilised for pro-,
viding goods, equipment
and skilled personnel nece-
ssary for the execution
of approved projects for
minor irrigation works
and drinking water faci-
lities."

TIBETANS PETITION
DALAI LAMA'S RETURN
Darjeeling, oept. 15

People's representatives
from the Tibetan towns,
Shigatseand Gyantse, have
arrived in the capital,
Lhasa, to ask the Chinese
authorities to arrange for
the early return from
Peking of their spiritual
leader, the Dalai Lama,
reports here today said.

According to ihe reports-
leaders from other Tibetan
provinces are converging
on Lhasa to put forward
similar appeals.
