NEHRU TO VISIT DARJEELING

After a successful visit
to China, the Prime Minis-:
ter and Congress Presi-
dent Sri Jawaharlal Nehru
is returning home, and .
before proceeding to New
Delhi, he is coming to
Darjeeling:, to lay the
foundation stone of Hima-
layan Mountaineering Ins-
titute. This national Ins-
titution, only of its kind
ir* this country Will im-
part training in mountai-
neering.

Besides the Prime Minis-
ter, members of the Board
of Mountaineering Institute
and other distinguished
visitors will be coming to
Darjeeling. As such it will
be a grant occasion for
the peopie of Darjeeling
who extend a hearty wel-
come to their Prime Minis-
ter and other distinguished
visitors at the home town
of the Everest hero Sri
Tenzing N-orkey.

DARJEELING GOVERN-
MENT COLLEGE REUNION
Darjeeling Oct. 28
A three-day progra-
mme of Re-union of old
and present students of
the Darjeeling G.vt. Co-,
liege was observed from.

22nd to 24th October.
The programme included
a variety entertainment
and a symposium on
"Culture" on the first day
and the staging of three
short plays from Tagore's
"Hasya Koutuk" under
the efficient direction of
Prof Prasanta Ghose, on
the second day. There
was also the staging of
two scenes from ''Mukund-
Indira" in Nepali undrr
the direction of Prof. T.B.
Chettri. The student-
actors drew repeated app-
lause from a packed house.
Particularly pleasing were
the performances --of Arun
Banerji ArindrajitMukher-
j.ee, Tarak Karki, lhpan-
kar Mukherjee, Anupam
Roy, C. S. Subba, Sasanka
Dutt, Niranjan Chakrabor-
ty, Niipesh Chakraborty,
Pradip Lama, Byon Ma-
jumdar, Amitava Das
Gupta and Rajat Mukerji.
On the 24th inst. there
were the Athletic Sports
. in presence of Dr. H. C
Mookerjee. Governor, West
Bengal. The programme
was rounded off with a
Re-union dinner Concur-
rently with the other funt-
tions a Science and Fine

GOVERNOR MEETS
GORKHA EX-SERVICE-
MEN

Darjeeling, Oct. 2G
The members of the
Gorkba Ex-Servicemen's
Association were entertam-
ned to Tea by the Go-
vernor of West Bengal at
Raj-Bhavan, Darjeeling re-
cently.. All big Civil Offi-
cials of this District and
serving . officers of the
Indian and British Gnr-
kha Recruiting Depots,
including Brigadier K. S.
Dhdlon were present.

All retired Military
Officers arrived at the
Gate of Raj-Bhavan at
4 p. m and were received
by Major Palden Lama,
I). R. 0. for Gurkhas,
Ghoom. The party then
proceeded in a procession
to the lawn of Raj-Bhavan
wheie many Civil Officials
had already assembled.
At 4-20 p. m Captain
Chatterjee, under instruc-
tions from the Secretary
to the Governor escorted
His Excellency Dr. H. C.
Mookerjee Governor of
West Bengal, from Raj-
Bhavan to the lawn and
Shri S N\ Sen, Deputy
Secretary ann6unced the
Governor's arrival when
the Govenor. was about-
