Dr- Liuder, the world
famous Eye Specialist from
Switzerland who is treat-
tiog Dr. B C. Roy, West
Bengal Chief Minister, vi-
sited Kalimpong on the
4th inst. on his way to
Darjeeling. lie inspected
the Therpa Chholing Mo-
nestry, Dr. Graham's
Homes and the Kalimpong
Arts & Crafts and was
very much pleased with
the running of these ins- -
titutions.

The Excise police rai-
ded certain houses in the
bazar to-day, the 4th inst.,
and recovered several large
tins of illicit liquor from
the premises.

It is gathered that
the Deputy Commissioner,
hearing the representation
of Swami Barffani Ji
Maharaj and of the local
people is inclined to con-
sider the proposal of sett-
ling the land on which
the Yagna Mandap has
been erected for the pur-
pose of housing the pro-
posed Gandhi Prarthana
Bhawan, a Dharmashala
and also the Municipal
Primary School. He is
also said to have «dvi6ed
the people to set up a
strong committee for the
purpose of which the local
Sub-Divisional Officer will
also be a member.

, RUSSIAN TOURISTS
IN MUNGPOO

Mungpoo, Dec. 1

A group of Russian
Tourists who reached In-
dia a couple of days ago,
visited Mungpoo on 26th
November, 19.r)4. They
visited the Government
Quinine Factory here. They
also vis'ted the Rablndra
Memorial Labour Welfare
Centre where Dr. M Sen.
Director, Cinchona. West
Bengal and ^ri D N.
Pradhan in charge of the
centra, explained th^m the
activities of the Welfare
Centre and the benefits
the labourers get from it.

After their lunch the
tourists left Mungpoo at
3 p.m. - .

Officer Kalimpong paid a
visit to the Maha Vishnu
Yasna on Saturday, the
4th inst. and seemed to
be very much impressed
witfti the arrangements.
They went round the
Mandap several times
making monetary and
floral offerings and also
met Swami Barffeni Ji

Maharaj at his cottage.

THIEVES KEEP PHONE
LINES CLOSED
Kathmandu, Nov. 30

Two telephone linen in
Nepal, one of about 30
miles and the other of
200, have remained dis-
connected for the past
three years and one year
respectively ou acoount of
thieves.

This was disclosed in
the Nepal Advisory Assem-
bly today by the Commu-
nications Minister while
introducing the Essential
Property Protection Bill,
which provides for the
protection of railway brid-
ge«, telephone lines and
other public properties.

The lines that are
affected are those connec-
ting. Rajviiaj with Birat-
nagar (30 miles) and Pal-
pato with Kathmandu
(200 miles).
