GRANT TO RAM KRISHNA
VEDANTA ASHRAM

Darjeeling, March 24
The Government of
Wesf. Bengal have sanc-
tioned an alloment of
Rs. 5,136 to the Deputy
Commissioner, Darjeeling,
for payment (luring the
current financial year as
grant-in aid to the Ram
Krishna Vedanta Ashram,
Darjeeling, for running an
Industrial Sohocil in Dar-
jeeling for the benefit of
the Scheduled Tribes.

COMMITTEE
Kalimpong, March 24
The members of the
Darjeeling Enquiry Com-
mittee arrived here this
afternoon. Their first sitting
is schedule to start tiimor-
ro.v. It may be recalled
I hat this committee was
constituted by the Govern-
ment of West Bengal last
year to enquire the econo-
mic condition of the
hill ptople of the district.

SAHMELAN AT SILIGDRI

The Uttar Anchalik
Hindu Dharma Maha
Sammei.an will be held
at Siliguri from 6th to
9th April. 1956. Srimat
Swami Satyananda Saraa-
wati will attend the Sant-
melan and guide the pro-
ceedings. '

k a ran and a Giri Maharaj,
Dr. Mahanambroto Brah-
machary, Dr. Sunitikumar
Chatterjee, Dr. Devapro-
ead Ghosh, Sri Chapala-
kanta Bhattacharya, Sjta.
Probhabati Devi Saraswati
and some other leaders
and speakers are expected
to attend.

The objects of the
Sammelan are (1) to preach
and propagate the Hindu
Religion and Culture

among the backward clas-
ses and tribes of the nor-
thern region; (2) to devise
ways and means to ame-
liorate the condition of
the hill peoples and to
spread cduca^on among
them; (3) to create pub-
lic opinion in favour of
removal of untouohability
existing in any shape or
form, and rigidity of caste
system in the Hindu so-
ciety and among the hill
peoples.

Dr. Nag said Kalimpong was
unique place for establishment
of a cultural institute where an
eraniinaut scholar like Dr. G.
Roerich was carding on Ins
works.

In a short speech Dr. G.
Roerich described how linguisti-
cally most of countries of Asi*
and Europe are united.

Sri M. C. Pradhwi pre-
sided over the meeting.
