AERIAL ROPEWAY FOR SIKKIM
FOUNDATION OF NEW PRESS BUILDING LAID
Gangtok, September 10
Despite inclement wea-
ther, there was quite a
big gathering when Hie
Highness the Maharaja of
Sikkim laid the founda-
tion atone of a new Press
building for the Sikkim
Government Press and of
the first Angle Station of
the proposed Ropeway from
Deorali to Theguk. Apa
Sahib B. Pant, the Poli-
tical Offieer in Sikkim
was amongst the distin-
guished guests.
Requesting the Maha-
raja to lay the founda-
tion stone of the Press
building, Shri Sonam Tse-
ring, the Executive Coun-
cillor iocharge of the Press
dept, said that the build-
ing whioh was essential
for the proposed expan-
sion of the Press, was
being put np from the
normal budget of the Go-
vernment of Sikkim and
would oost one lao and
fifty five thousand.
The Maharaja then
laid the foundation stone
and the whole crowd moved
up about two hundred
feet higher for the founda-
tion laying of the Ropeway
Angle station.

Namgyal of Sikkim, in a
brief speech laid that the
construction of the Rope-
way was felt and desired
by the Government of
Sikkim for quite a long
time and that it was in-
eluded in the Post War
Reconstruction Plan pre
pared in 1942. But the
Government had not so
far been able to take it
ap due to want of funds.
Now, he said, it was
possible, with the gene,
rous aid extended by the
Government of India by
lending the money requi-
red for it.
His Highness then
poured the first bucket of
concrete into the . pit
where the trassel of the
Angle station would stand.
Kumar jigme returns
from switzerland

Kumar Jigme Dorji, Bhu-
tan Agent in India has returned
from Switzerland after an ab-
sence of nearly one year on
grounds of health. It .is a
matter of great pleasure to re-
port that he has fully recouped,
thanks to modern treatment
and facilities in Swiss Sana-
torium.
During Kumar Jigme's,
absence, from India Miss Tashi
Dorjee, his sister, officiated as
the Bhutan Agent.
