SILIGURI MUNICIPAL ELECTION

The Second Election
of Siliguri Municipality is
due next week. The close
fight will be between the
candidates of Congress and
Communist party. There
are also several ndepen-
dent candidates in the
field.

After partition the
growth of Siliguri town
was very rapid. There
wa» a tremandous increase
in the volume of business
and population. The town
also developed at the
same time, but the de-
velopment was unplanned
and unsystamatio and
this became a problem
for the Municipality. The
town people require many
amenities and for the plan-
ned development and bet-
ter administration there
should be able and ex-
perienced men in the
Municipality. It has been
reported that all sorts of
maneuvering is going on at
present to win the eleotion.
The voters of Siliguri Town
should see that right per-
sons are elected in the
interest, of the town
a n d its future develop-
ment

LIFE INSURANCE
CORPORATION OF INDIA

According to a State-
ment laid on the Table
of the Lok Sabha today
by the Finance Minister,
Shri T.T. Krishnamaohari,
the total investments made
by the Life Insurance
Corporation in the various
industries in the country
amounted to Rs. 11,08,58,-
000 during the period
September 1958 to the
end of August 1957. Of
this amount Rs. 10,76,44,-
000 were invested in the
private sector and the
balance in the public Bee-
tor.
