AIR TRANSPORT OF
■ SOODS TO TIBET

Gangtok, Jan. 8
Last week a twin-
engined French biplane
owned by an Indian air-
ways firm flew, over Sikkim
surveying tbe region, for
flying conditions over the
high mountains of Tibet.

It is learnt that a
delegation of Indian and
Tibetan traders from K»-
limpong and Gangtok
approached the Indian
Political Officer in Sikkim
to discuss Sikkim's. future
trade with Tibet. The
possible introduction of
aerial transport from In.
' dia direot into Tibet was
feared to imply a slump
in business.

The Indian Politioal
Officer here has made no
comment on this matter,
but it is understood that
the Government of India
has in anticipation of bet-
ter trade relations with
Tibet, granted a licenoe
to air-lift Indian and;
foreign goods from India
to that oountry. If the
Tibetans wish to have
their own goods carried
by plane rather than by
mules and porters, tbe
Indian Government, it is
reported, will not be
swayed by other conside-
rations.

freeship School reopens
