in kaiimpong
Kalim pong, Jan. 26
The people' of Kalim-
pong celebrated the Re-
public Day in a j befitting
manner. The day's pro-
gramme began with Pra-
bhat Fhary in early
morning.
At 9 A M. Sri B N.
Sen Gupta, I.A 8. Sub
Divisional Officer unfurled
the National Flag at tho
mela ground simultaniously
Sri D. N. 8en, K. M. O.
hoisted the national flag at
the Saheed Memorial where
11 Gun salute was fired
in honour of the President
of India. The Sub Mivi
sional officer inspected the
guard of honour presented'
by the local police. The
parade concluded with
the' march past by the
polioe force & Scouts of
Kumudini Homes with
ttv-ir band, and S. P. 0.
taking the salute.
After that All faiths
prayers meeting was held
at the Mela Greund which
was followed by Ritual
spinning.
Ddoumentary films
were shown at both the
Cinema balls whieh were
witnessed by large num-
ber of students and other
people.
Blankets and gar.
merits were distributed to
the poor and deserving
at the court compound.

A party of 19 stu-
dents and 2 teachers from*
Sikkim accompanied by
Sikkim's Education Direc-
tor Shn S. B. Ghosh left
Gangtok today for a fort-
night's educational tour
of Northern India and will
, visit, among other places,
Luoknow, Delhi, Agra and .
Varanasi. They will be
halting at Delhi from the
24th to 28th and will be
among the important Visi-
tors to witness the Re-
public Day Parade and
the Cultural Pageant.
Another party "of 13
students and two teachers
. from Bhutan are getting
reuoy for a three weeks
educational and cultural
tour of places in India.
They will start from Bag-
- dogra on the 5th February
and visit in the course
of three weeks Calcutta,
Agra, Delhi, Sonepat,
Nangal-Bhakra, Hard war,
Dehra Dun, Varanasi
Bombay, Mysore, Madras
and Santi-Niketan.
Arrangements for tour
in India for both the
parties are being made by
the Central Ministry of
Bduoation Last year a
similar . educational tour
was arranged by the Cen-
tral Ministry of Education
for a delegation of stu-
dents and teachers from
Sikkim.
