GIRI'S ADVICE TO STUDENTS

Mr. V.V. Giri, Gover-
nor of Utter Pradesh
addretiing a meeting at
Allahabad recently said
that he did feel that it
was the duty of the tea-
oher j to see. in the first
instance that students
were never allowed to be
exploited and then their
oontact with the students
must be oloser and better.
Unless the teaohera- in
the modern universities
were in olose and oonstant
touoh with the students
they could not benefit
the students. At the
same time be would like
to emphasise that the
teachers should be deter-
mined ' to avoid political
affiliations. They should
remember that "a teaoher
is a 'teaoher first a tea-
oher last and a teaoher
always".

The Governor advised
students that they should
never think of having
recourse to strikes. Their
minds should be diverted
from suoh activities, to
study. They...tbe stu-
dents should keep in
mind that after finishing
education they would have

to undertake the respon-
sibility of looking after
their family and the
country.

Mr. Giri'e advise to
toaohere is very timely
considering the present
relation between the tea-
ohers and the students.
