Darjeeling Munioipa-
lity's Roheuie for impro-
ving the important thorou-
ghfares of the towo has
een approved by . the
West Bengal government.
The scheme will cost about
Re. 1,36,000
Most of the roads of
other municipalities of this
district are in deplorable
condition. In Silignri the
read in Naya bazar area
needs immediate/attention.
Here in Kalimpong con-
ditions are worse. One
of the main roads,. R. Ci'
Mintri Road has become
dangerous for vehicular
traffic The Rishi Road
which was dag up for
laying telephone cables has
not yet .been repaired.
It is pot understood why
such important roads are
in neglected condition
since a, long time.
We hope the other
Municipalities of the dis-
trict elia.ll five priority
to the Boheme of road
improvement within their
respective area and the
West Bengal government
will also come forward
with necessary grants o
implement the eohrmeu.

by the Chinese during the
uprising in Tibet arrived
here yesterday from Lhasa.
Commenting on. prison
life there one of the lamas'
said that the Chinese
authorities ara forcing
•very prisoner including
Kashmir and' Ladakhito
"donate blood for the
blood bank which has
been recently started in
Lhasa. The prisoners are
made to work 20 hours
a day he added.

ARRESTED
Kalimpong, Jan. 14
A Ceylonese monk,
Bbikhu Dhamma Tilake
who was wanted in con-
nection with the murder
of Ceylon's Prime Minister
was arrested in Qangtok
early this week. He was
residing in a monastry
near Qangtok for some
time.
