POLISH PLAN TO .CLIMB
EVEREST FROM TIBET

Poland is preparing
an expedition to scale
Mt Everest from the Ti-
betan aide in 1964, it
was announced here on
Monday.

Preparations for the
assault on Everest began
this year when Polish
climbers visited the Alps,
the Pyronnes and the
Caucasus for training

the north wall of Eiger

Matterhorn. Next year
training groups will go
to Central Asia and Af-
ghanistan,

SIKKIM ROPEWAY MAY BE
READY THIS YEAR

Darjeeling, Sept. 29
The 25 mile aerial
ropeway between Gangtok
and Thign, coating nearly
Rb, 30 iakhs, is expected
to be completed this year,
rh« new ropeway would
faoilitate communications
between the two areas.
At present most loads are
being carried by mules.
The most difficult part of
the project, carrying foreign
manufactured steel cables,
has now been overcome.

SINO'NEPALESE BORDER
ISSUE
Calcutta, Sept. 29

The agreement bet-
ween Nepal and China on
the border issue will be
signed in Peking during
King Mahendra's visit tt>
that ooiiutry.

This was indicated by
a member of the King's
party before his departure
from Calcutta on Tuesday
for Hongkong en route
to Peking by an Air-India
Boeing.

He added that the
issue concerning the status
of-Everest would figure
during the talks the King
would have with Chinese
leaders.
GRANT FOR HIMALAYA
KALA MANDIR

Inaugurating the 12th
anniversary celebrations of
the Himalaya Kala Man-
dir at the G,D.N.S. Hall
on Sunday evening, Mr.
M N. Cboudhury, Deputy
Commissioner, Darjeeling,
promised the assoeiation
