GORKHA LEAGUE REJECTS
LANGUAGE BILL
Darjeeling, Oot. 5

The Darjeeling Dis-
trict Committee of the
All-India Uorkba League
meeting here on Sunday
rejected the Official Lan-
guage Bill in iti present
form as it said, the basic
. demand of the Nepali-
■praking people of Dar-
jeeling Distriot remained
unfulfilled. It demanded
Nepali should be recog-
nized tn the whole of
Darjeeling District for all
ad ministrative and other
official purposes including'
the proceedings in civil
and criminal oours and
English till replaced by
Hindi be the language of
communication between
the State headquarters
and Darjeeling Distriot.

POLICE CAMPAIGN IN
SILIGURI TOWN

Siliguri, Oot. 5
The Sub-Divisional
Police Officer said the
police had started a cam-
paign in this subdivision,
especially in this town,
to create good relations
between the police and
the publio. During this
campaign, a polios officer
would discuss l»w and
order problems with res
ponsible inhabitants of
this town and different
areas and saek their co-
operation in the fight
against crime. The res-
ponse so far had been
good.

U. A R. TEAM TO VISIT
TEA GARDENS

Calcutta, Oct. 9
To examine the.pros-
pects of improving trade
with India, two U.A R.
delegations each' led by a
Minister, now in Delhi,
will visit some, of the tea
gardens in Darjeeling and
the Dpoara. One party
will arrive in Calcutta on
Ootober 7 and the other
on Ootober 9.

During their stay in
Caloutta, they will meet
the State's Minister for
Indust'y and Commerce
and visit some of the
jute mills and industrial
establishments. Their pro-
gramme includes ■ a visit
to Durgapur also.

NEPAL'S EXPORTS TO
TIBET MAY RISE

Mr. B. B. Thapa, Ne-
pal's Minister for Trade,
Baid here today Nepal's
exports to libst were
expeoted to increase after
the conclusion of. the cur-
rent round of talks with
the Chinese.

Nepal, he said, would
like, to sell to Tibet its
products like matohes and
cottage industries goods.
He said Nepal would like
to import goods worth
Rs. 26,00,000 from China
this year.

The imports would
mainly consist of textile?,
readymade garments, silk,
newsprint, cotton yarn,
chemicals, electric motors,
radios, fountain pens, cast-
ing maohines, paints and
varnishes.

DR SEN'S SERVICE TO
BE RETAINED

Caloutta, Oct. 5
The West Bengal
Qovernment is understood
to have deoided to re-
tain the services of Dr.
D M. Sen, Education
Secretary and Director of
Public Instruction, till the
end of the Third Plan.
Dr. Sen is on contract
service terms with the
Government, which has
renewed bis contract three
times already. He will
begin his fourth term
with the Government in
Ootober.
