BAUMGARTEN TAPESTRY

The Tapestry Book. By Helen Church-
ill Candee. (Frederick A. Stokes Com-
pany.) $3.50.
It is, indeed, the day of tapestry. Never
since the “golden age” of tapestries has
such interest been displayed in their fascin-
ating lore and their marvelous technique
nor such enthusiasm for their acquisition
on the part of collectors.
Following closely on the authoritative
work by George Leland Hunter, recently
published, now comes “The Tapestry
Book,” profusely illustrated, adding one
more name to the rapidly growing cate-
gory of literature on this alluring subject.
The authoress is an ardent devotee of
her subject, and through the pages of her
book will doubtless aid materially in the
process of opening the eyes of the art-
loving public to the marvelous qualities of
color, texture and composition to be seen
in the wonderful woven panels, which
become even more fascinating in the light
of their inspiring history.

THE NEW AUSTRIAN
CHAIRS OF WILLOW
Designs by Hohlwein—The International
Studio, December, says: “Structurally it is
tightly and securely woven in a material
which is springy and pliable under weight.
Architecturally he has fashioned a chair
which possesses obvious conformity with
the simple lines of the modern interior. It
has the sincerity and directness of the
‘mission’ type, with a lightness and grace
of its own. For a porch, a sun room, a
boudoir—what could be more practically
appropriate or esthetically pleasing 7”
These interesting Sofas, Chairs and Tables,
in considerable variety, are to be seen at
our showrooms, and for our faraway friends
we send sketches and prices by mail.
