like to know
what effect their
scheme, quite
aside from sub-
ject, will have on
sensitive nerves
which react to
colours. One
may say that
they exert a
cheering influ-
ence. There is
nothing harsh or
disquieting or
morbid about
them; on the
contrary, there
is great beauty
of hue and line.

deck is a place
for lounging, a
tea room rather
than a dining
room. The ceil-
ing and floor are
treated to suit
the paintings;
thus, each mural
has at the centre
of the upper and
lower borders a
tablet which
forms a colour-
key for the car-
pet and rugs of
a darkish blue

room is built of
Caen stone, and
pilasters of that
soft grayish-yel-
