FLOATING ICE—PASTEL

Pacific Exposition buildings, by Joseph Pennell,
took up the place reserved for distinguished
exhibitors on the west wall. Sergeant Kendall
showed a delightful Study for a Portrait in
pastel, in which he has very successfully brought
out the character of his sitter, a charming little
girl. Henry R. Rittenberg showed a bit of at-
tractive figure painting in a picture entitled At
the Piano, good in technique and appealing in
sentiment. Carl J. Nordell had a fine scheme
