1212] LAMBETH LIBRARY 829
(+1 slip) 68 (+ i slip) y8 812 (12 canc. ?) 912 io10 (4-2 slips) 116
(4 canc.) | 1220 | 136 (5, 6 canc.) | 1412 1512 (10-12 canc.) 1612 I/14 (14
canc.) 1812 1912 2014 (+2 ff. at beginning) 2112 (4 canc.).
The book is no doubt from Christ Church Canterbury, but not
necessarily from its library. At bottom of f. 1 is : Lumley.
It was certainly acquired by Bancroft for the Lambeth Library
and occurs in his list. On a paper flyleaf is a list of contents in a
xviith-cent. hand, anterior to Sancroft, which appears in many of
the MSS. The list begins :
Cantuariensibus archiepiscopis concessae etc. Chartae Regum
et aliorum.
In the catalogue of Bancroft’s books drawn up for Abbot there
is entered among the MSS. in folio : Cantuariensibus archiepp.
concessae et Chartae Regum, which must be this book. But it dis-
appeared from Lambeth before the transference of the library to
Cambridge, for it does not figure in the Cambridge catalogue, and
I do not doubt that, like 1213, it got into the hands of Sir Roger
Twysden. In the last cover is this note:
N.B. Folia in diversis libri partibus (C)aractere et vario
ordine numerata ubique inveniet Lector, cuius iudicio relinquuntur,
Sed tamen paginarum seriem ordine transcriptam a numero 1
ad 431 Anno 1681 mense vero Decembris exarari fecit Wilielmus
Twysden cuius est liber.
It seems to have been given by the Twysdens to Lambeth with
nos. 1211 (a Koran) and 1213.
In the cover is a late number 91.
