PREFACE
J DESIRE to place on record my appreciation of
the help given to me in the compilation of this
catalogue by the following: Dr Otto von Falke,
professor Adolf M. Hildebrandt and Dr Peter Jessen,
all of Berlin; to monsieur J. J. Marquet de Vasselot
and monsieur Emile Picot, both of Paris; to Mr A.Van
de Put of the Victoria and Albert Museum; and to my
friend, Mr F. G. M. Beck, of Clare College, Cambridge.
Dr Marc Rosenberg’s invaluable work, Der Gold-
schmiede Merkzeichen, has been freely used in the iden-
