A SMALL CUP OF GLASS AND SILVER
THE inverted cylindrical body is of Venetian latticinio glass of the late sixteenth
century. The silver handle, formed of a ring with a ball, acts also as a whistle, and is
affixed on a domed top, which is decorated with ovals in strapwork and three lions’
masks with rings.
Height, 18 cm.

A CUP OF GLASS AND SILVER GILT
THE cylindrical body of the cup is ofVenetian latticinio glass ofthe sixteenth century,
with rosettes applied. Surmounting the cover is an amorino holding a spear in the
right and a fruit in the left hand,and standing on a small reel-shaped pedestal. The
top of the cover is decorated with fruit and strapwork in relief on a matted ground.
The glass body is held by three birds’ heads and is supported on a stem decorated with three
rams’ heads and oval strap ornaments, the lower part being fluted. On the top of the base is a
laurel wreath, while on the border are clusters of fruit and strapwork.
Inside the cover is a shield of arms, painted on glass, with the date 1582.
Total height, 3 1 cm.
Marks: on the cover, the mark of Nuremberg and the maker’s mark, probably that of Christoff
Ritter(lein), who was master in i577>(N° 3104 in Rosenberg’s Der Goldschmiede Merk- JL
zeichen, 2nd edition, 1911). On the base: the mark of Nuremberg and the maker’s mark of W
Elias Lencker, who was master in 1562 and died in 1591, cp (N° 3116 in Rosenberg).
