(c) Fragment, -iy m. x -12 m.; fine work. The lower limbs of a male
figure who strides to 1., wearing a short bluish C/AA72 and greaves (?), and
carrying a round shield (yellow) and spear. Between his legs is inscribed
nOAVAA(/ras). To the 1. is the hand of another figure holding a wooden
club (?) or spear shaft (?).
Since the warrior does not appear to be fighting, this mosaic probably
illustrates the same scene of Polydamas explaining to Hector the omens
seen by the Trojans which is shown in the illustrated Codex of the Iliad
at Milan, where the names are written above the heads of the figures, cf.
TA'aaA yTr/acyka^^/a A^^rasiaTza (Milan, 1905), pi. 39, p. 44.

dark-blue object with his 1. The other, on r., stands frontally, with head
turned to his r., and holds a yellowish-white mass (? net) with both hands.
This seems to be connected with the object held by the first man.
Found in i8yg near SS. Pietro and Marcellino.

22. MOSAIC WITH SEA-HORSES (pi. III).
