Prince at pike exercise, turning to his left, full length, garter and crest at top left hand, inscrip-
tion ILLUSTR : HENRICUS PRINCEPS UUALLLzE. at top, and at foot “ Are to be sould
by John Hind.” Two other early engr. portrs. inserted, one a very fine impression, a bust, in
oval, from Holland’s Heroologia, 1620, but here without letterpress on back. First ed.,
corresponding with the orig. MS. above, but for dedication. Britwell copy brought £8 10s.
by auction.

This is the only memoir of Prince Henry and gives curious details of his occupations, disposition,
&c. First edition of this work, a totally different one from the “ Discourse ” above : they seem
to have often been confused. This book contains a detailed account of the Prince’s illness
and the result of the post mortem ; compare “ Truth brought to Light.”

Large Arbor in black and red towards end : gothic type, fine initials. “ Le privilege des
libraires,” &c., begins on v4. There are at least 3 colophons or imprints. Brunet II. 379.
“ The Grand Coustumier is generally supposed to have been compiled by Pierre de Fontaines
or Defontaines, some short time before the year 1270 ; but Count Beugnot, in the introduction
to his edition of the Assises de Jerusalem, says that it was composed about the year 1180.
The ancient customary laws of Normandy are still the main laws which govern Guernsey,
Jersey, and the other Norman isles belonging to England, and the customary laws of Paris
prevail in Lower Canada and in the Island of St. Lucia.”—Cooper Catal., Lincoln 's Inn,
