Le prime quattro, in scrittura visigotica, relative agli
anni 769, 782, 792 e 804, sono cenni autobiografici autograft
dello spagnuolo Agobardo coadiutore e immediate* succes-
sore di Leidrado nell'arcivescovato di Lione.
Of the list of Popes he says :
E 26, di piu mani della fine del secolo VIII e della prima
meta del IX, contiene un calendario e martirologio della
chiesa di Lione, i cicli decennovennali, il 1 De Sex Aetatibus
Mundi ', parte del ' De Ratione Temporum ' di Beda, altri
excerpta pure dall'opere di Beda, e un catalogo di papi da
S. Pietro ad Adriano I. La notizia di questo pontefice:
XCVIl. Adrianus sedit annas XXIII, menses X, dies XVII,
essendo seguita senz' altro da un breve testo de ponderi-
Ims et mensurzs, scritto clalla stessa mano, e certo che
questa parte, la quale non e la piii antica del codice, fu
scritta fra il 795, anno della morte di Adriano I, e 1' 816,
anno della morte del successore Leone III.
Giorgi goes on to make some unfortunate inferences from
two pages (lr, 162") scribbled in Chancery Script. Photographs
of these pages were submitted to Prof. Prou who declared
the script to be that of a later period of the French Chan-
cery and to be quite compatible with Lyons provenance.
Presumably the scribbler had imitated a Lyons charter.
But there is still another interesting feature of this MS.
After Bede's Temp. Rat. (fol. 136v) finit liber de tempori-
bus amen deo gratias. de anno. Annus primus decern men-
sium fuit, etc. This new work is a very accurate account of
the month-names of the Jews, Egyptians and Greeks. It has
been published by Mountford in the Journal of Hellenic Stu-
dies XLIII [1923] 114.
Finally let me mention that there is no i longa. The li-
gature nt often (in Spanish fashion) sets the t above the n.
The quire-marks are numerals. For omission-mark (on fol. 147v,
contemporary) a 2-sign is used.
With the help of these two Vallicelli MSS. (I call them
3 and 26), the Leidrad MSS. Lyons 608 and 610, and the
tow Amolo MSS. Lyons 449 and Autun 5 (I call it 5),
I submit the following list of Lyons ninth-century abbreviation-
symbols.
