L i b r a r y. The Library was established in 1945; it con-
tained 5,000 books at that time. In the years 1945—87, the
Library grew to contain 16,000 volumes, acquired by way of
purchases, donations and exchanges. The Library specializes
in the history, archaeology, ethnography, art and nature of
the region. The collection includes a number of valuable
regional publications ranking as very rare collector's items.
Also valuable is the collection of about 1,600 old prints. The
Library has both alphabetical and subject catalogues and
a reading room.
OLSZTYNEK (Olsztyn Voivodship, Ostroda County)
MUSEUM OF FOLK ARCHITECTURE, open daily from
10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the summer season from 8 a.m. to
6 p.m.
The Ethnographic Park, a branch of the Mazurian Museum
in Olsztyn, was established in 1962 out of those buildings
which survived the war. The Park comprises at present 18
specimens of regional wooden architecture; most of them
have interiors arranged with old furniture. Four homestead
buildings and two dwelling cabins come from the region
inhabited by a population bf Lithuanian origin (the region
of Memel). The most valuable objects in the Ethnographic
Park include a wooden Mazurian church, an inn, a Mazurian
porched cottage and two windmills — one of them of the
Dutch type. It is planned to transfer to the Park in the
future some 50 specimens of folk architecture of the regions
of Warmia, Mazuria and the Vistula. The Park has an area
of 34 hectares.

The Museum was organized in 1961 as an attempt to recon-

person of Zygmunt Krasinski (1812—59), one of the leading
poets of Polish Romanticism.
