Porębski was presented a commemorative book
Tessera. Sztuka jako przedmiot badań [Tessera. Art as
the Subject of Research], as well as works of art of
the following artists: Tadeusz Brzozowski, Tadeusz
Kantor, Jerzy Nowosielski, Andrzej Strumiłło, Jerzy
Tchorzewski and Ryszard Winiarski. The Academic
Circle of the Students of Art History organized an
exhibition of Professor Porębski’s “conference”
drawings.
f October - Dr. Piotr Krakowski was promoted to the
post of associate professor.
16 October - Ass. Prof. Żurowska was elected Head of
the Institute, yet due to some health problems, she
refused to accept the post. In the second ballot, Ass.
Prof. Małkiewicz was elected.
13 November - Dr. J. K. Ostrowski was elected deputy
director responsible for student affairs.
3 November - Tomasz Gryglewicz obtained the degree of
doctor of humanities.
1982
1 February - Dr Gryglewicz was nominated to the post of
adjunct professor.
12 February - The Council of the Philosophical-Histo-
rical Faculty conferred postdoctoral degree on Dr. J.
K. Ostrowski, on the basis of his dissertation Van
Dyck et la peinture genoise du XVIIe siecle. Awe
sources du baroque dans un milieu artistique italien.
7 June - A graduate of art history, Adam Rzepecki was
employed in the photo laboratory.
1 November - Marcin Fabiański M.A. was appointed to
the post of assistant in the Department of Old Art.
1982/83
Due to a bad state of health, Ass. Prof. Józef Lepiarczyk
was exempted from conducting classes; he did not
resume teaching until his death.
1983
1 January - Dr. Jerzy Gadomski was promoted to the
post of associate professor.
1 February - Dr. Jan K. Ostrowski was promoted to the
post of associate professor.
10 March - The ceremony of renewing Prof. Jerzy
Szablowski’s doctorate, which originally was to have
taken place on 17 December 1981, took place in the
assembly hall of Collegium Novum. Prof. Lech
Kalinowski delivered the laudation.
27 May - The Institute celebrated solemnly the
centenary of the Chair of Art History (1882/83—
1982/83). A special ceremonial academic session,
enriched with an exhibition of selected academic
publications, was held in Collegium Novum.
29 May - The ceremony of conferring an honorary
doctor’s degree on Prof. Karolina Lanckorońska,
daughter of Karol Lanckoroński and patron of the
Section of Art History headed by Marian Sokołow-
ski, took part in Rome. Prof. Lech Kalinowski
delivered the laudation. The above event concluded
the Institute’s jubilee academic year.
1 September - Julia Chyra M.A. was employed in the
Institute’s front office.
4-10 September - Ass. Prof. A. Małkiewicz participated
in the XXV Congress of Art History in Vienna,
where he presented a paper: Die Kunstgeschichte in
Polen und die Wiener Schule der Kunstgeschichte.
7 November - Krystyna Czerni M.A., Bogna Dziech-
ciaruk M.A. and Marek Zgórniak M.A. were
employed in the Institute on engineering-technical
positions.
1984
7 March - Death of Prof. Tadeusz Dobrowolski.
29 April - Death of Prof. Karol Estreicher.
1 September - Ass. Prof. J. Gadomski was elected
director of the Institute. He held this post until 31
Jan. 1991. Dr. A. Różycka Bryzek held the post of
deputy director in the years 1984-1987 and
1992-1993.

Symbolae historiae artium, which was prepared (with
some delay) for his sixtieth birthday.

research on mediaeval stained-glass windows, to be
published as a part of Polish section of Corpus
Vitrearum MediiAevi (CVMA), was employed in the
Institute’s library on the post of a library keeper.
8 January - J. Miziolek M.A. was promoted to the post
of senior assistant.
October - Wojciech Balus M.A. was employed in the
Institute of Art History as assistant.
19 December - Marcin Fabiański obtained a doctorate in
humanities.

May - Tomasz Węcławowicz obtained a doctorate in
humanities.
15 September - Anna Galas was employed as an
administrative specialist in the Institute’s front office.

the Committee of Art Studies of the Polish Acade-
my of Sciences.
