Leon, Granada, Aragon, etc., begun and concluded
29th Oct. 1516. On Vellum. In Latin. Dated Green-
wich, 1 Nov. 1516. Enclosed in a morocco portofolio.

Translation :
We Henry by the grace of God King of England & France & Lord
of Ireland both by these Holy Gospels of God & by the Canon of
the Mass handled by us bodily swear that for our part we will
observe very faithfully & without violation the treaty of con-
cord, peace & amity both all & each of the articles of the same
by our authority among our own & of his Imperial Majesty & of
the Catholic John & Charles Kings of Castille, Leon, Granada,
Aragon, etc. Archdukes of Austria, Dukes of Burgundy etc.
ambassadors [spokesmen], proctors & commissaries begun &
concluded on date of the 29th day of the month of October of the
year of the Lord 1516. And similarly we will make it our business
(?) to observe the same treaty & all & each of its articles through
our undermentioned (people) as far as pertains or pertain to us &
the same undermentioned. So help us God & these holy Gospels
of God. Provided that the said Imperial Majesty & the foresaid
Charles the Catholic King for himself & the Venerable ? Lady
Johanna his mother and their separate deputies for this matter
shall have completed the similar corporal oath in the presence of
our Commissary.
In witness of which matter we the above said King of England &
France have subscribed & signed with our hand this treaty. Given
in our manor of Greenwich on the first day of the month of
November in the above mentioned year of the Lord & in the 8th
year of our reign. HENRY R[EX].

this precious State Paper.
Charles Prince of Castille had become King of Spain upon the
death of Ferdinand the Catholic. He was later the Emperor
Charles V.

written from Copenhagen (1672 to 1674) when Envoy
Extraordinary to Denmark, to Sir Robert Clayton, Lord
Mayor of London. Refers to the East India Company;
difficulty in obtaining re-imbursement as the King is
setting out the Fleet; the Lords Commissioners would not
think it reasonable that he be imployed in ye King’s
Service in so remote a Country at his own charge. Has
not heard whether Clayton has received the Princess of
Denmark’s picture that he desired; the great probability
of Peace, etc. 4to. Half morocco. £2, 2s.
