The same tomb also contained an amphora (present height 10 in.), of a type which is usually
found at Cameiros in Rhodes, but not in Cyprus. On each side of the neck is a guilloche pattern.
Below, on each side, a wild goat with long horns runs to the right, with head turned back. In the
field are clots and double spirals. (Fig. 151, No. 5.)

The presence of this vase seems to place the whole of the wares early in the 6th century B.C.

The remaining vases in this tomb were of common Cypriote wares and shapes, including two
black amphorae, with lattice-work stripes on the body, in white ; a similar amphora, with brown lattice
work and black bands, on white ground (Fig. 151, No. 4); a whitish jug with horizontal bands in
black and brown, and with small concentric circles round the shoulder ; a jug with vertical and
horizontal circles intersecting, with a bird on the shoulder and eyes on each side of the spout
(Fig. 151, No. 3). Also six jugs with vertical circles, three alabaster bottles, many silver ornaments,
some sard beads, and two small scarabs.

A somewhat later stage of the ornate geometrical style in Cyprus is shown by a group of vases
from tomb 129.

Fig. 152, No. 1. Amphora, with rosettes, diamonds, etc., round the neck, and a band of lotus
round the foot. (Ht. iaj in.) Round the body is a frieze of the patterns sometimes known as
Phoenician palmettes, developed from the sacred tree of Assyria. This is a well-known element in
Cypriote designs. In particular it occurs, in conjunction with a lotus frieze, on an archaic sarcophagus
from Amathus' which may be assigned to the middle of the 6th century.

Nos. 2a, 2/). Fragment of an amphora with geometric decorations round the neck and shoulders,
and at the handles. These include a maeancler, semicircles, chequers, and latticed panels. Round the
foot is a lotus pattern. (Ht. 9 J- in.) In the space between the handles were two scenes, of which
one is now wholly wanting. The other contains a representation of an open-air banquet, which
seems to be unique in its rendering of natural scenery. In the field are a central tree and
two date-palms in flower. Three crudely drawn birds occupy the central tree, and two wreaths
