Tomb 27.—Small shallow grave.

Silver. Two spiral coils.
Porcelain. Small figure of Bes.
Pottery. Fragment of foot of black-figure kylix.
Terracotta. Parts of two small boats.
—Cave, with shaft. The grave showed clear traces of repeated use.
Gold. Fragment of leaf, and beads.

Silver. Regal coin of Salamis (Cyprus), 6th century B.C. ; ring with paste scarab of a goat.
Bronze. Sestertius of Marcus Aurelius ; small bell with iron tongue.
Iron. Strigil.

Glass. Fine blue and white alabastron (1. 5! in.); two plain white bottles.
Ivory. Pin, with round head.
Porcelain. Scarab, lion (Fig. 147, No. 4).

Pottery. Jug, with birds (Fig. 156, No. 2); same with plant; fragment, with red line on black glaze; black-
glazed lamp.
Terracotta. Small boat; female head, early type.
—Cave with a shaft, about 7 ft. deep to the bottom.

Bronze. Ring, with a plain jasper, set in a silver bezel ; five small bracelets.
Jasper (black). Scaraboid, lion and deer (PL IV, Amathus, Fig. 6).
Porcelain. Twenty-six small Egyptian figures, etc.
Glass. Pendant bead, with a silver mount (PI. XIV, Fig. 27).
Pottery. Two globular vases with concentric rings ; " cocked-hat" lamp.

The upper part of a small sepulchral stele, crowned with a pediment and acroterial ornaments, was also found near
this tomb.
—Two small inscribed cippi of the usual type were found near the tomb.
Ivory. Scarab, three figures (Fig. 147, No. 5).

Pottery. Small kylix, with black bands on red ground; small oinochoe, black bands on buff; small plain
vases.
—Open grave, about 10 ft. deep.

Silver. Two rings,, with plain bezels.
Alabaster. Small amphora. Ht. 2§ in.
—Vaulted chamber, carefully hewn out, opening into a shaft. The door was covered with a large stone, and was
apparently intact. Three skeletons, with the coarsest red pottery, were lying on the top of a deposit of mud
13I inches thick, which covered the bones of the earlier burials.
Silver. Ring, with plain scaraboid. (PI. XIV, Fig. 7) ; eight silver beads ; chain.
Bronze. Two rings, gold plated.

Sardonyx. Pendant bead, with silver mount. (PI. XIV, Fig. 36).
Porcelain. Egyptian eye.

Terracotta. Two horsemen, in rude style, painted red and black. Rough goat.
—Tomb immediately adjoining the last. About 6 ft, down the shaft, the broken terracotta figure of a boy, with
grapes and cock, was found outside the door (Fig. 155, No. 5). The tomb was intact. It contained two
bodies on the left, two on the right, and five in front, two being children. Three vases were lying between
the crossed legs of one figure, but otherwise there was no apparent system in the arrangement.
Silver. Ring ; five spirals ; remains of gold-plated silver diadem.
Sardonyx. Bead, (PI. XIV, Fig. 34) ; fourteen sard beads.
Glass. Fine alabastron, dark blue, light blue and yellow. Ht. 4 in.

Pottery. Amphora, with chequers (Fig. 155, No. 4), two of same shape, with plants and panels (Fig. 155, No. 2);
seven globular bodied jugs with horizontal and vertical circles (rough) (Fig. 155, No. 3); three plain jugs; large
" cocked-hat" lamp.
Terracotta. Fourth century figure; girl with bird (Fig. 155, No. 1).
— Pottery. Black-figure kylix, in many fragments: Siren, between standing figures (Fig. 163, No. 2).
—Tomb with shaft, containing sixteen of the inscribed cippi.

—Cave opening into a shaft. Much of the roof had fallen, leaving the top in the form of a dome. Five bodies
were lying together on the side opposite to the entrance. On the right, two were lying head to heel.
Silver. Six plain hair-spirals. Six bronze hair-spirals, terminating in female busts in silver.
Pottery. Plain ware of simplest forms.
—Cave, entered by us through the roof.
Bronze. Spatula.
Sardonyx. Beads.

Porcelain. Blue aryballos (Fig. 166, No. 4).

Pottery. Three fragments of two black-figure lekythi with rough palmettes.
Terracotta. Rough female figure, painted black and red; small mask.
