54 NAGA-ED-DER IV — THE PREDYNASTIC CEMETERY N 7000
Some parts of body still in position: pelvis with leg bones attached in original relation twisted
from vertebral column and pushed down with some of the other bones into NE. corner of grave.
Skull bottom up at SE. corner. The penis, with considerable hair, was preserved intact, between
the legs and resting on the left femur. The whole left arm was found in position with the hand
placed over the pelvic parts. Below the lower (left) half of pelvis was a small twisted hemp cord
which was attached to a mass of medium coarse linen cloth, lying in front of pelvis, which had
served as a protective pouch. In the region of the stomach and intestines there remained a
considerable quantity of the seeds and pods of the SzmLtree. Bones of right arm protruded from
under upper ribs and vertebrae. Between pelvis and W. wall of grave were a pair of large
animal horns, the size of an ox. The clothing of medium texture, remained in considerable masses
around the pelvis, legs and lower ribs. The cloth pouch was of the same material as the clothing
(coarse) and was so mixed up with it that it could not be separated, for the cloth fell apart on
handling. Slight traces of fibers of under matting under clothing.

UCLMA 6-3034, 3035.
Head plundered and missing, left arm detached out of position at neck, rest of body intact. Por-
tions of skin preserved. No trace of hair on skin of legs. Coarse clothing under pelvis. Traces of

N 7100. Map D-5. Figure 21 f.
GRAVE: 100X70-60 cm. Axis 150 W. of N. (No diagram.)
BURIAL: Adult male on left side, intact. Figure 21 f.
GRAVE GOODS: None.
Body contracted on left side lying well over on stomach, knees drawn up underneath, head tilted
back due to cramped position. Undisturbed, but pressure of grave filling had forced separation
of vertebral column at point of support afforded by ribs, and upper part of body had moved out
of position towards knees — but this was not due to plundering. Remains of food inside lower
ribs. Under matting preserved in places; Type II, lengthwise.
