4. Fine RPol. vase, decorated at base. H. 26.5, D. 14.5 cm. Figure 86 d 3/1; e.
5. Broken RW. bowl, RPol. inside, roughly pebble burnished outside. H. 8.5, D. 22.5 cm.
Figure 86 d 1/1.
6. BkT. basin. H. 21.0, D. rim 15.0 cm. Figure 86 d 3/2.
7. BkT. basin. H. 29.5, D. rim 18.5 cm. Figure 86 d 2/2.
In filling, over A-C:
viii. Lip fragment of a white cross-lined bowl. Not measured. Not illustrated.
ix. Sherd from a tall, nearly cylindrical Pol.RW. vessel with scratched potmark. Not mea-
sured. Figure 86 c, d 2/1 upper. UCLMA 6-3514-3521.
A was of massive frame of uncertain sex (probably male), middle aged with teeth somewhat worn.
In the hands was a large lump of malachite (8) and a large lump of resin. Bones salty and rotten.
There was a double under matting, the lower of Type III, crosswise, the upper of Type I, length-
wise. B had the skull missing but seemed otherwise intact except for lower vertebrae and
pelvis. Bones salted and broken. The under mattings were the same as those of A. C was an
adult of undetermined sex, middle aged with somewhat worn teeth. Bones salty and rotten.
Upper matting preserved on arms and knees (under D) of Type I, lengthwise. Under mattings
the same as for A and B. From their relative positions, as well as from their having common
under mattings, it is very probable that A-C were contemporary burials. D was middle aged
with somewhat worn teeth, and probably male. It overlapped C at knees but was on a level 10
cm. higher. There were no traces of either upper or under mattings. E was an adult of unknown
sex, of which the lower vertebrae and sacrum were evidently in position on an under matting of
Type I, lengthwise. Beyond this were parts of two bodies (three femurs, two tibias and a half
pelvis), some of which probably belonged to E. The space between E and F was sufficient for
another burial. However, these bones were scattered and of unknown sex. F was undisturbed
except for ribs and vertebrae at middle of body which were missing. It was an old person with
well-worn teeth and sutures of skull closed. Left hand outspread under cheek, right hand at chin
and mouth, with one finger in mouth to a distance of 2 cm. In clay-like floor of grave was the
impression of an under matting of undetermined type, crosswise.
