The committee in presenting the accompanying ba-
lance sheet for the twoo lost terms feel that a wodr
a two of explanation in necessary. Captains seem to
think that their duties are over with the close of the
cricket, boating and football season, and pay little or no
attention to preserving and storing up things for the
ensuing season. The result therefore is that in each
department fresh material has to be purchased each
season. The boats were put away in a shameful state and
needed serious repair, a, oars were mostly broken and
lost and the planks etc. for the raft were scattered to
the four corners of the earth and entailed heavy expen-
diture on the reconstruction of the raft. In cricket, matters
were similar, no bats or balls appeared to have been
left over from last season and manty of the other re-
quisites had been lost or were in worthless condition.
This season we have a different tale to till and without
enumerating the various articles stowed away, we may
venture to say that a most appreciable saving will be
found to have been made when the next balance sheet is
published. One member of the committee has kindly
promised us a new cricket-net; and a mowing-machine
is the only large item we can at present foresee.
