Neuenlieim v. Gymnasium F.C.
This match, between the school pack and a team composed
of pupils and masters of the Gymnasium, took place on
Wednesday, March 14th. The Gymnasium were fortunate in
winning the toss and deciding to play with the wind from the
cemetery end; for just after the start a blinding snow storm
set in which lasted well into the second half, but had consider-
ably abated at mid-time. From the kick-off, play settled
down in our opponents' 25, and then back to mid-field, where
a series of scrums took place. After about fifteen minutes'
play the ball was again carried by some loose play to our
opponents' end. Then Friday managed to get the ball and,
running strongly, reached the goal line before being collared.
He was well backed up by Willey, to whom he was able to
transfer his charge with the result that a try was scored in
the Gymnasium corner. Dickie took the kick, but the diffi-
cult angle and state of the ball rendered an addition of points
impossible. After the 25 kick, the Gymnasium forced us
into our 25 and, from a scrum there, the ball was passed out to
the left-wing three-quarter, Gulden, who in some unaccount-
able way went right through our defence and scored beneath
the goal, but the try failed. Soon after half-time was called
with a try all. On the resumption of the game, play for some
