DEE NEUENHEIMEE.

11

Old Boys hardly need to be reminded that Neuenheini is
now celebrating its Diamond Jubilee, having been founded
in 1843. To do justice to the event a banquet must be held,
and this will take place in London early next June, this month
being selected as it is hoped it will suit the convenience of all.
The Chairman ? Well, he will be a very notable man, for
he will be an Old Neuenheimer.

In accordance with custom a number of Old Boys, on the
Sunday following the dinner, went to the house of Mr. W.
B. 0. Vincent and spent a pleasant afternoon and evening.
The representative of the "Neuenheimer" was invited by
Mrs. Vincent to be present and he reports that Capt. W. M.
Ogg, Mr. E. H. Allpress, Mr. E. A. Northcott, Mr. G. G.
Myatt, and Mr. G. J. Vincent were among those present, and
that after supper " Dear Old Neuenheim" was sung most
heartily.

"What a fine lot of fellows you Neuenheimers are" re-
marked one of the guests at the Neuenheim dinner. "I know
no other College on the continent and few in Great Britain
where the fellows hang so much together after they have left
the place and have entered the struggle of life." The host
with becoming modesty blushed, and remarked that he could
not account for this splendid spirit of friendship, which so far
as he was concerned seemed to become stronger the older he
grew. A neighbour however solved the problem. "At
Neuenheim you are miles away from your parents. You mix
with fellows to whom have been handed down traditions—
Neuenheim traditions—and you soon get infected. When I
was at Neuenheim we all felt morally bound to maintain an
esprit de corps, and this good feeling in my opinion is as vital
to the success of a college as are the quality and quantity of
the food." The stranger—an Old Etonian—subsequently
told the Headmaster that his boy would be sent to Neuenheim.
