DER NEUENHEIMEE.
Putting the Weight. Prize presented by Volkschule.—
J. S. Dunning, 1. S. J. Brown, 2. Distance—26 feet.
Nippers Race : 220 Yards. Prize presented by W. G.
Fallowfield, Esq.—E. Clark, 1. G.Davison, 2. Time—34 sees.
The Inter-Collegiate Sports on April 9th met with a
somewhat more favourable day than that which had done
much to spoil our own sports on the previous Monday. In
the Seniors, Neuenheim College was easily first with a total
of 26 as against 10 for Heidelberg; this success was chiefly
due to the splendid work done by Dunning, who managed to
secure six medals. However, the Seniors on the Neuenheim
side were good throughout, and in the mile race, which
was won in splendid style by Currie, our opponents scarcely
had a look in at all, and much the same might be said for
the quarter mile which was practically a dead heat between
Dunning and Brown, the latter being somewhat out of form
owing to a strained rib. In the Juniors we did not fare
nearly so well and were beaten by 18 points to 6. Among
these events the quarter mile was perhaps the most exciting,
Roberts and Murphy obtaining first and second places
respectively, while in the half mile Clark had verj' hard luck
in not securing first place as he was only beaten in the last
few yards.
At the conclusion of the sports the medals and shields
were presented by Mrs. Currie.

Captain Owen Hassall has been appointed superintendent
of the military prison at Devonport. Hearty congratulations
coupled with regrets that Neuenheimers will no longer be
able to meet him—they always avoid prisons ! In " The Daily
Chronicle" on June 1st, it was stated that Capt. Hassall
" enlisted as a private fifteen years ago and was promoted
from sergeant to second lieutenant during the Boer War."
