DER NEUEN HEIM ER.

Owing to the near approach of the Lenten Season we have not had
as many Dancing Evenings as we would have wished this term, but those
we have had have been an unqualified success. Our best thanks are due
to Mrs. Hill for the admirable and unselfish manner in which she has
carried out all the arrangements.

Our " Fastnacht" Fancy Dress Ball conies in for special mention.
It was quite a brilliant affair. The Eeading-Room, where supper was
laid, and the passages were tastefully decorated with palms, evergreens,
and tapestries, giving the old spot quite a fairylike or Eastern appear-
ance. This, in a small way, prepared one for the dazzling and bewildering
sight which met one's gaze on entering the Speise-saal where the dancing
took place. There one saw gallant Hussars in their dazzling uniforms,
toreadors from Spain's sunny shore, Turks and Ethiopians whirling
around in their bright array. It was truly a brilliant gathering. Some
of the costumes showed great ingenuity and originality. We finished up
with a confetti fight, a fitting finale to the evening's enjoyment. Every-
one enjoyed themselves thoroughly and Mrs. Hill is to be congratulated
upon the success with which the evening was crowned.

This term has seen the birth amongst us of no less than three
German speaking clubs. The members of these clubs bind themselves to
speak nothing else but German, and anyone heard using any other
language is fined two pfennige for every word of that language which he
makes use of Nearly everyone of us belongs to one or other of these
clubs, so, as may bo imagined, the amount of German "flying round" is
something appalling. That terrible warcry "Vorwärts Zwei Pfennig"
has become a sort of nightmare amongst us and strikes terror into the
stoutest of hearts.

Our congratulations are due to J. S. Dunning upon his appointment
as prefect and also upon his election as Captain of Sports. If popularity
spells success, then success is already his.

this season. Never were colours better earned. He has won his way to
