Przekrój magazine to award a „Gold Grosz” to the best company in Poland. The
celebration, annually held in Sukiennice hall, is accompanied by a display of
coins and affords businessmen a chance to learn the history of the grosz.

In 1994, the Museum established cooperation with the Cracow Branch of the
Bank of Silesia. At the opening ceremony of the Branch, the Cabinet presented
sa display of 166 items (open Sept. 9 to Oct 7, 1994) arranged in the renovated
historical interiors of the Bank. The display enjoyed considerable popularity, espe-
cially among schools. The success of this project led to another exhibition being
held. Titled „Greek Coins: the Cities and the Rulers,” it contained 236 items and
was opened in the presence of participants of the „Europa Nostra” international
conference. It attracted much interest and earned favorable mentions in the me-
dia.

In 1994 first efforts were made to create in Cracow a scholarly numismatic
journal titled Notae Numismaticae. A joint project of the National Museum, Ja-
giellonian University, and Numismatic Section of the Archeological Commission,
Polish Academy of Sciences, it had its first issue published in June 1996, with
financial support from Bank of Regional Cooperation.

To our great satisfaction, one of the Cabinet’s staff, prof. Stefan Skowronek,
was awarded a prize in the fifth Jan Gawroński competition for his work titled
Coin in the Ancient Judaic Culture.

In a conclusion, another two important iniliatives need to mentioned that
help integrate the Cabinet - and, in a broader sense, the entire Emeryk Hutten-
Czapski Department - with the community of numismatists and all those concer-
ned to restore a permanent exhibition in the Piłsudski St. manor. Chronological-
ly, the first of them was the Society of Friends of the Numismatic Cabinet (1994);
the other was the Society of Friends of the Emeryk Hutten-Czapski Museum (1996),
initiated by, among others persons, the count’s descendants in Poland and abroad.
The latter Society, also supported by the National Museum directors and the
Numismatic Cabinet staff, aims at making the Czapski Family collection widely
accessible to the public at the Emeryk Hutten-Czapski Museum.
