wall on the left bears hundreds of sandstone plaques, each
marking a contribution to the cause of rebuilding the castle. The
gate decorated with the coats of arms of Polish provinces,
contemporary with the plaques, leads onto a small square, over-
looked by a polygonal bastion with an equestrian statue of
Tadeusz Kosciuszko, by Leonard Marconi. The current statue is
a replica of the original destroyed by the Germans, and was
donated to Cracow by the citizens of Dresden.
