The village ofHawarti (also known as Huarte) lies 15 km north of Apamea, on the southern slope
of a little outcrop among the first hills ofjebel Shahshabu. Situated there are the ruins of an impor-
tant church complex excavated in the 1970s by Maria-Teresa and Pierre Canivet and published some
years later.
