presumed to be a magical inscription,
painted in brown [Figs ll:a; 10:d]F The
bowl itself is a typical example of post-
Classic style N V and may be dated to
AD 1000-1200 (Adams 1986: 500,
Fig. 282/c22).

Of the wheel-made storage wares, one
should mention the qadus water pots, pre-
served mostly as knob-shaped bases,
sometimes with an intentional pre-firing
mark, to which the ropes tying the pot to
the saqiyah wheel were attached [Fig. ll:h\.
