a!tar !ocated in the recess in the eastern wa)f The !ater attar,
apparentiy connected with crypt no 26, was budt atong simitar tines
as the attar m the commemorative chapei above the so catted
archbishop Georgios ciypt (no.28). This tater attar served both
crypts. Its mensa was supported on four wooden tegs set in
squarish holes cut in the stone pedestat.
t tie grouping of the most imposing tombs around the
memorial complex suggests that they were raised on rrJ
principle around the buriats of the tocal monks or ecclesiastics held
in the highest esteem and yo-sf //7cv7e//; veneration by the
population of Dongoia. There are sound reason to think that the
commemorative comptex on the TWH cemetery was the ptace of
pilgrimage, a good augury of the later Nubian Mustim sheikh cutt
and pitgrimages.
