567. Sheraton Carved Mahogany Four-post Canopy Bedstead
American, Late XVI II Century
Footposts finely fluted and tapered, carved with acanthus leafage;
plain tapering square headposts, plain arched headboard. The rear
posts are also of mahogany, an uncommon feature. Equipped with box
spring, mattress, and chintz hangings.
Height, 8 feet 2 inches; width, 5 feet
Originally in Perry Hall, Balto County, Md.

568. Sheraton Carved Mahogany Four-post Canopy Bedstead
American, circa 1800
Four urn-shaped finials; two front pillars with fluted, turned, and balus-
ter stems enriched with acanthus. Tapered turned feet with brass
casters; hooded top with lace valance and back curtain complete; head-
board with concave corners. Pitted with spring and mattress.

569. Sheraton Maple Field Bedstead American, circa 1800
The footposts finely turned in vase baluster pattern, the headposts and
support domed tester frame with white cotton tester. Posts orna-
mented with brass urn finials. With box spring.

570. Chippendale Virginia Walnut Chest-on-chest
from the Chase Mansion, Annapolis, Md.
American, XVHI Century
Case of eight drawers surmounting a slightly larger case of three
drawers furnished with a handsome set of brass rococo handles;
molded flaring cornice and ogee bracket feet.
Height, 6 feet 6 inches; width, 42% inches
Note: This chest-on-chest was formerly part of the furnishings of the Chase
Mansion, Annapolis, Maryland, residence of Samuel Chase (1740-1810), who
signed the Declaration of Independence.
